I am running Mandriva Linux 2008.1, kernel 2.6.24.7. I plugged it into the USB, plugged the speakers into the audio device and I had sound. Pros: This device worked right out of the box.

I really like the sound for the 1st 4 minutes! -) I'm guessing a driver issue since MS driver works well (the optical out does work natively with the MS driver - just no support for DTS and DD 5.1) Or maybe give up on optical out and use the onboard 2 ch sound. Overall Review: I either will RMA or reinstall XP MCE instead of Vista Home Premium. I have read elsewhere that Vista seems to have a lot of problems with 5.1 optical/spdif connections. Maybe if card was usb 2.0 it would have more bandwidth to do the job or just needs a better driver for the optical spdif. I even installed Vista on a new HDD to be sure of no conflicts but didn't help much, except if not using any other USB devices there is less garbled stuttering but not ideal. Emailed back & forth with TB tech support and we couldn't come to a solution.

hdd, Aero enabled, multiple apps open.Ĭons: I had horrible results with this card and my laptop, which has an ATI Radeon Xpress 200m chipset, 1gb DDR, AMD Turion-64 MT-32 - I don't know if it's just underpowered or the driver but using the Vista driver from Turtle beach I had garbled sound occuring after about 5 minutes of audio or video playback - made watching a movie or listening to audio unbearable - this happened with analog or optical out if using the TB driver. Card performed flawlessly with MS driver, even using other usb ext.

Great sound using the optical or analog out but ONLY with Vista drivers that come from Microsoft when you plug in card - no support for SPDIF though although optical out works with MS driver. Honestly this card is pretty inexpensive, easy to install, and easily an improvement over onboard sound. We all know this less than $50 card isn't going to offer as many features as a $xxx pci card so please write reasonable reviews balancing performance for the price, thanks. As long as I insert the card, run their software, then open my programs my computers have no problem alternating between onboard sound and this sound card without a reboot.Īlso, some reviews for products on this site will lower the overall rating if what they buy doesn't meet their high expectations.

Overall Review: With my limited testing time so far I installed the software on my desktop and laptop then alternated between the two removing and inserting the card back into the usb ports during program operations.
The surround sound is just regular stereo but for under $50 I wasn't buying it for surround sound. That previous review wasn't kidding about the blinding led on this card.

And this is my third pair.Pros: Pretty good sound for the money no audio feedback easy to install and use having only one mic jack software is quick and painless actually comes with a cd so you don't have to hunt it down on the internet software comes with a quick and easy update system easy to run and exit program no stability problems so far makes sound from music, movies, and games comparable to my high quality digital audio players minus actual surround sound.Ĭons: You still have to install software but I don't think there's anyway out of that yet. I thought the firmware update was supposed to resolve these or some of these issues, but still having problems. So as soon as I finish dictating a text, music starts. When I finish dictating a text The media player/music player starts up automatically. I need to turn the headphones on and off sometimes two or three times before the sound volume is correct.ģ) when using the headphones with my iPhone via Bluetooth. These are the issues I am still having:ġ) occasionally upon start up the headphones power down automatically.Ģ) when turning on headphones and connecting them to the Xbox, many times the Xbox sound volume is nonexistent or very low. Then I tried plugging the headphones and transmitter into the Xbox to see if they worked any better. I waited for several minutes for this to stop, but they just kept on flashing. After the loading and updating screens finished, the transmitter and the headphones continued flashing green simultaneously. The firmware has been updated even though there was no prompt stating so. I was told the firmware update would resolve them. This is the third pair of headphones I have had replaced because of the issues they have. Although the software still has some bugs. The quality is there and they sound amazing (when they work). Still having issues after firmware update
